In a statement, GCC has mentioned that the civic body has identified 23 areas that were inundated due to heavy rains caused by these cyclones. The statement then pointed out about how the number of spots due to waterlogging came down to nine in the last 2 years. This was due to many steps that were taken by the civic body. Truth is that due to the heavy rains during the 2 cyclones, 23 areas were waterlogged.

Meeting for steps to be taken for the improvement works:
On Thursday, 24th December, a meeting took place and in the meeting the civic body discussed various measures that would have to be taken for these 23 spots for the improvement works.

The Chennai Corporation commissioner, Mr. G. Prakash during the meeting directed the corporation engineers to conduct a detained study on these spots.

As per an officer belonging to the Chennai Corporation, the engineers were also asked to study about the 73 streets where new storm water drains would be constructed. It is said that the engineers would be conducting a survey about these streets and then construct the new SWD.

Many roads in Chennai were damaged during the monsoons and the engineers were asked to repair these roads also. To carry the flood water from Pallikaranai marshlands to the Buckingham canal, the civic body had proposed to construct flood canals in 3 spots in south Chennai. It must be noted that floods at Velachery etc was due to rain water that flowed from southern suburban places.
