Posted on: 06/Jan/2021 9:25:16 AM
The news that the state government has allowed 100percent occupancy at the theatres in TN has been the subject of discussion for many now.

Truth is that this decision by the government has evoked mixed reactions. It must be noted that this decision was taken after actor Vijay met the CM of Tamil Nadu Mr. E. Palaniswamy ahead of the release of his film ‘Master’ during Pongal festival. The citizens were not happy and they took to social media to express their thoughts.

Not wise to allow 100% occupancy in the theatres now and this was according to the medical fraternity. It was brought to light by a doctor belonging to JIPMER in his FB page that it was a suicidal move to allow 100 percent in the theatres. He threw light on how the Covid-19 pandemic was not yet over and how many were losing their lives. He also mentioned in his FB that all sanitary workers, police personnel, and thousands of doctors were tired of the situation.

His point was that no policy maker or actor would be putting their lives in danger by watching films in the theatres but it was common people who are in danger due to the pandemic. The closed settings of the theatres with absence of social distancing would be dangerous for the movie goers in this present situation. This was pointed out by few experts.

The Covid-19 infection rate has been coming down in Chennai and in TN and nullifying it must be important. The move to allow 100% occupancy in the theatres was premature. This was mentioned by the famous virologist Dr. Jacob John. He added that the government must take decisions based on the pressure from the film industry.

Perfect settings for Covid-19 spread:
It was highlighted by Dr. Prabhdeep Kaur, deputy director, ICMR-NIE that closed spaces without social distancing would lead to rapid spread of the Covid-19 infection. She hoped that the public would avoid such settings for the sake of their health. As per Dr. K. Kolandasamy, former director of Public Health, the theatres must strictly enforce SOP. He explained about the importance of wearing face masks and sanitation.
