For the purpose of studying the accidents and the reasons for the accidents, a road safety cell would be set up in Chennai. As a result of this, comprehensive measures could be taken to reduce the accidents.
The GCC would come out with an action plan after a thorough analysis and the plan would be aimed at reducing the fatalities in Chennai by 50% by the year 2026. The GCC has called for the tenders for hiring a consultant for studying the existing data in terms of accidents, their causes and the locations of the accidents. It must be noted that the government wanted Chennai Smart City Ltd to hire consultants and study the accident data.
Coordination of education and health departments:
The education as well as health departments would coordinate with the consultant for making contributions towards the road safety ecosystem and it would be first-of-its-kind. This was as per Mr. Raj Cherubal, CEO, Chennai Smart City Ltd.
