The schools in Chennai and in TN have been closed due to the threat of Coronavirus pandemic. Feedback from the parents regarding sending their kids to the schools was taken by the school education department.

Now, after the Pongal holidays, the majority of the parents were willing to send their children studying in classes 10 and 12 to the schools. This was according to some officials belonging to the school education department. It is now said that the government would allow the reopening of the schools in Chennai and in TN for the students belonging to classes 10 and 12 after the Pongal festival holidays. The sources mentioned that those students and schools who prefer online mode would be given permission.

According to a senior official belonging to the School Education Department, in the previous feedback session held in November the parents were not willing to send their kids to the schools. This time around, most of the parents wanted physical classes for their kids. It has been revealed that just a few parents from the cities were not willing to send their kids to the schools now. They were afraid of the virus spreading.

Various proposals for classes considered:

Splitting the classes with more than 25 students into batches and conducting the classes on a rotational basis have been taken into account by the government. The senior official later highlighted how all the schools premises (both government and aided schools) have been sanitised. Thermal scanners and other safety measures were also available in the schools.

Few days back, a fresh draft SOP on health, hygiene and safety protocols for the reopening of the schools was released are well known. It is revealed that all the schools were instructed to send the feedback of the parents by Thursday evening regarding reopening of the schools for the government to take a decision.
