Tamil Nadu Weatherman has informed that the northeast monsoon has not ended yet and rains would revive during the end of January and would persist until February.
It rained incessantly in the Chennai Metro City and its suburbs on 5th January right from the early morning and the rain was non-stop for 14 hours! This day’s rain reminded of rains caused by the cyclones or low-pressure zones. It was explained that the northeast monsoon rainy season will conclude on 11th January.
However, the Tami |Nadu Weatherman has now announced that the northeast monsoon rainy season has not concluded yet! It would continue til February!
Tami Nadu Weatherman, Pradeep John has observed regarding this on his Twitter page:
”North-East Monsoon has changed into a ‘Never Ending’ Monsoon! Generally, it won’t rain during the winter period. However, during this winter season, it has been raining quite consistently! Because of this, the State of Tamil Nadu never had any ‘winter’ in this year!
The rains will stop dry to the dry winds after 17th January. However, the rains will resume by end January. This would persist til February. Please note that whatever we experience now is of historical importance!
In Cuddalore, there has been a rainfall recorded at 200 mm to 300 mm in a single day! Similarly, it has also rained in the delta regions 100 mm to 200 mm.
The point to note here that these rains happened without any cyclonic forms or depression zones formed. It can be said that it has rained mercilessly in the Tamil Nadu Delta Districts and their neighbouring districts!”
