For the extended areas in Chennai, hospitals on wheels to be set up for serving the public

Improving the health infrastructure in north Chennai has been given importance.

It is revealed that the integrated pandemic and disaster risk management project for the urban poor in the Kosasthalaiyar river basin has been aimed at improving the health infrastructure.

For the purpose of establishing storm water drains, GCC slotted the expanded city into the basins of Kosasthalaiyar River, Adyar, Cooum and Kovalam is known.

The GCC or civic body has grabbed the Asian Development Bank proposal to give a grant for Covid-19 containment activities to boost the health infrastructure in the above said areas.  

It must be noted that these above 4 zones have people in the low income category and they have been facing issues like poor transport, education and healthcare etc. This was according to a senior officer belonging to GCC. He added that a proposal was made to use the funds to create health amenities on wheels. It is said that the civic body would be launching 2 medical and diagnostic mobile units each for 4 zones.

Establishment of centralised testing unit:

Information gathered was that a centralised processing and testing laboratory linking 8 mobile units would be established in Madhavaram at a cost of Rs 1.2crores.
