Many who had gone to their natives to celebrate Pongal have been coming back to Chennai city.
At the toll plazas in places like Paranur near Chengalpet, Vikravandi, Athur near Tindivanam and Sriperumbudur, traffic got piled up and it created few issues. It was mentioned by a senior officer belonging to National Highways Authority of India or NHAI that additional lanes were being opened and more personnel were being pressed into the service. By afternoon, the situation eased out at most toll plazas including Vikravandi. By evening, traffic improved at Paranur toll plaza.
It was mentioned by the police that many had gone to their native places to celebrate the Pongal festival with their families and to enjoy the long weekend. He added that on Sunday many returned back to Chennai and this led to huge traffic piling up at Paranur toll plaza. Point is that for managing the traffic 500 police personnel from the district were deployed.
