The Central region of Chennai is grabbing many eyeballs now because of the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases after the Pongal festival. In the last 7 days, positive growth has been reported in the zones like Kodambakkam, Teynampet belonging to GCC.
Information gathered was Kodambakkam and Teynampet zones registered quarter of new or fresh Coronavirus positive cases but zones in north Chennai have registered a huge drop in the fresh cases.
In the beginning, the zones belonging to north Chennai had lots of Coronavirus cases and these zones were considered as hotspots. It was revealed by data from the Chennai Corporation that Teynampet zone had registered 2.5% growth in fresh cases and Kodambakkam zone registered 1.1percent fresh cases. It must be noted that on Sunday as many as168 new cases were reported in Chennai and out of those 17 cases were from Teynampet zone and 12 in Kodambakkam zone. Point is that Kodambakkam zone has got as many as 207 active cases and Teynampet zone has got 183 active cases.
Festival season has been cited as the reason by the GCC now for the increase in the fresh Covid-19 cases. It was revealed by an officer of GCC that after festivals more cases get reported from central Chennai region and this could be due to the fact that the busiest shopping hub T. Nagar falls in both these zones. In north Chennai, Manali zone recorded minus 41.7% and in south Chennai Sholinganallur zone recorded minus 26.1%. Growth rate of minus10.5% was witnessed in Madhavaram zone.
