Thaippoosam being grandly celebrated today at Thiruchendur Lord Subramania Swami Temple!

Out of the special temples dedicated to Lord Muruga or Subramania in Tamil Nadu - Pazhamudhisolai, Pazhani, Thiruchendur, Thiruthanigai, Thirupparankundram, and Swmaimalai - the temple of Lord Muruga at Thiruchendur is counted as the 2nd temple in the order. Several traditional and religious festivals are celebrated in this temple throughout the year. Thaippoosam festival is among these most important among these.

Thaippoosam is being celebrated today (Thursday, 28th January). Accordingly, the temple corridors were opened at the early morning 3.00 AM  Viswa Roopa Deepaarasdhanai was performed at 3.30 AM. Udhayamaarthanda Abhishekham was performed at 6.00 AM. Subsequently, Theerthavaari was performed at 8.30 AM and Uchikaala Abhishekham & Deepaaradhanai at 10.00 AM. The other traditional events are continued.

Every year, the Deity of the Lord Swami Aaivaipukandha Perumal is carried to the North Chariot Street to offer Darshan to the Devotees. However, this year (2021), due to the preventive measures  imposed against the spread of the raging coronavirus pandemic, and as per the guidelines, the deity of Lord Aaivayu Kandha Perumal is carried to the interior corridor of the temple.The Abhishekhams and the Divine Dressing of the Deity and the Deepaaradhanai is being performed here.

Large numbers of devotees from various parts of the State of Tami Nadu and ther States as well have gathered here at the Thiruchendur temple and performing the penance of carrying ‘Kavadis’ or piercing with needs!
