The schools in TN have been consulted to simplify the question papers for the board examinations of classes 10 and 12. Now, the teachers are fighting for more weightage for the MCQs or multiple choice questions and have asked for more choices in class 10 and class 12 board exams.
It is shocking to mention here that the majority of students have forgotten what they have learnt during the online classes. The students might need one revision on the 60% of the prioritised content on which they would be quizzed for the examinations. The teachers have pointed out that students have lacked writing practise and they wanted to reduce the exam duration with fewer descriptive questions.
The TN state board could give more weightage to the objective based questions and this was stated by R.S. Shanthi, a PG teacher from Chennai based school. Fifteen MCQ’s would be usually asked in the class12 Physics and Chemistry exams and this was as per the existing pattern of question paper. She mentioned that MCQs could be increased to 25 because of limited writing practice. She also suggested reducing the descriptive type questions in the 5 marks section (Part -4).
It was later revealed by another teacher that question papers must have limited creative or analytical based questions. Truth is that the students would be able to answer only the direct or knowledge based questions.
There were suggestions from some head masters regarding the question papers for the board exams. They were of the view that the question paper must have just 1 mark and 2 marks questions.
According to the Chetpet based MCC Higher Secondary School principal, Mr. G.J. Manohar Anna University opted for an objective type question paper for the semester exams and reduced exam duration for the online tests. He now wants the school education department to think on the same lines with just 1 or 2 mark questions. By just having one or two marks questions, the students would also be able to prepare for the exams well.
It is now brought to light that the teachers have asked the directorate of government exams to release the revised model question papers well ahead. By this, the students would be able to prepare well. Later, senior principal of Everwin Group of Schools, Mr. B. Purushotham pointed out that basic learning must not be compromised while simplifying the question paper. He suggested that the number of questions could be increased to provide more options for the students in all the sections.
It would be difficult for the students to write the exams for 3 hours wearing masks. Hence, the exam duration must be reduced. This was highlighted by Mr. A. Peter Raja, president of TN High and Higher Secondary School Headmasters Association.
