For those parents and students who have got doubts regarding the reopening of colleges in Chennai and in Tamil Nadu for first and second year, here comes an important piece of news.
On Sunday, 31st January 2021, a decision was taken by the Tamil Nadu Government and it is said that the colleges would be reopened and classes would be conducted for all UG and PG students from 8th February. It is learnt that the offline teaching for the students of classes 9 and 11 would also resume on that day. This was brought out in the statement issued by the CM of Tamil Nadu Mr. E. Palaniswami.
From 7th December 2020 onwards, the Tamil Nadu government has allowed reopening of colleges for the final year students and from 19th January 2021 onwards schools for classes 10 and 12 started. Now, the hostels in the educational institutions have been given permission to reopen.
The chief minister mentioned that from 1st of February movie theatres, complexes would be allowed to function with 100% occupancy in TN. It must be taken into account that in the last 10 days less than 550 fresh Covid-19 cases have been reported per day in Tamil Nadu and the total number of active cases is 4629 now. He has announced fresh relaxations now.
From 1st of February onwards, petrol pumps would be allowed to function 24 hours. By strictly adhering to the standard operating procedures, swimming pools and exhibition halls could be reopened for the public. It is important to note that Tamil Nadu has also allowed indoor meetings like religious gatherings, cultural events, college festivals etc at either 50% capacity or up to 600 people.
The ban on international flights would be there and only those allowed by the Union home ministry would be able to travel. Practical experiments would be conducted for all the students on rotational basis only.
