The dreams of residents belonging to northern Chennai are going to become true in another 2 weeks when the CMRL starts operating metro trains from Wimco Nagar to the airport. The journey would take about hour of time and it would be smooth and superb.

It has been more than 5 years ever since CMRL began the construction of phase 1 extension project and soon the metro line from Washermenpet to Wimco Nagar would be opened with stations at Tondiarpet, Tiruvottriyur etc. As the stretch faced heavy traffic congestion in the peak hours of time, it would improve the mobility for the people and would bring down the travel time. This was as per some officers belonging to CMRL.  In the beginning, only less number of passengers might be travelling but this would increase gradually in future. The sources were of the view that the fares of metro trains were high (Rs 10 to Rs 60) and the stretch might not attract many commuters.

In the beginning, 5 percent increase in the number of people using the stretch would be there. It was later brought to light that after the Covid-19 infection gets over completely and when everybody goes to their offices then there would be more demand. He hinted about the reduction in the fares as that would make many people to use the metro trains. As per a commuter, small section of people who travel from TIruvottriyuir to the High Court plus those travelling to Guindy etc Might use this stretch more.
