The suburban trains are not allowing the college going boys and school going boys in Chennai to travel in the peak hours due to Covid curbs and this has made many students unhappy now. The girls are allowed to travel in the suburban trains in the peak hours in the Chennai city.
On Monday, many college boys (who depended on suburban trains) reached their classes a little late and they received scolding from the college authorities also.
To reach their colleges in Chennai, several students depend on the suburban trains on the Tambaram-Beach, Tiruvallur-Chennai and Gummidipoondi- Chennai routes. Many students (residing in the Chennai suburbs) missed the first hour classes in the colleges on the first day as they were unable to reach their colleges on time at 9am and the classes started at 930 am.
It was brought out by a second year B.Com student belonging to suburban Chennai that he reached the class at 10:30 am though the classes began at 9:30 itself. He threw light on how the students of morning shifts would have to miss the classes due to lack of enough trains. Truth is that students on morning shifts would be missing one or 2 hours of classes. He concluded that the return trip was not an issue.
It was mentioned by the head of the Tamil department of Hindu College that the students from Arakkonam and Tiruvallur were not available and the attendance was poor. He added that the TN government must take steps to make sure that there are sufficient transport facilities.
