School bus permits denied

The Government has denied permits for 2579 school buses. Although the move has raised an uproar from schools and parents, officials feel that safety comes first.

‘(We will) ensure all school vehicles (are) roadworthy and that they comply with the regulation and control of school buses act, Special Rules 2012 norms…. RTO officials across the state (have) rejected permits for over 2,500 school buses that had been detected as defective. During the checks conducted over the past few weeks, we have denied permits for 2579 buses… Those vehicles would be allowed to ferry students only if they rectify the defects and comply with the norms. Though we are aware that a section of parents have been blaming us for the inconvenience caused by school authorities not operating vehicles to their locality, we cannot make hasty decisions as safety of students is our priority’, said an official.
