Southern Railway has improved the amenities of the passengers of the Chennai Metro City Suburban Electric Train System (Chennai Beach to Tambaram and beyond).
The facilities provided include – foot overbridges, lifts, and escalators at all stations including Mabmbalam Tambaram, Ambattur, Chengalpattu, and Thiruvallur.
An inaugural event for the above faculties was organised and the inauguration was done by the Central Railway Minister Piyush Goyal at a virtual function on Sunday (21st February).
On this occasion, addressing the gathering, the Central Railways Minister Piyush Goyal shared: We are committed to making the State of Tamil Nadu a fully electrified network for travel so there is no pollution due to the Railways! We have doubled the speed of electrification in the last 6 to 7 years. In the next two-and-a-half-years, the entire rail network of the state will be electrified!”
Foot-overbridges have been provided at 10 stations including Ambattur, Arkonam and Mambalam...
Escalators have been commissioned at 6 stations - Egmore, Mambalam, Tambaram, and Thioruvallur at Rs. 16.61 Crores.
A multi-level 2-wheeler and car park were opened in Katpadi at Rs. 4 Crores.
The Minister further added that railways were constructing the first-eve vertical bridge, Pamban Bridge, which will connect the Ram Sethu and will give pilgrims visiting Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi easier access in the region. “We have done 100% LED lighting at the Railway Stations and service buildings in the state! It also boasts the 1st Green Corridor, a stretch of 114 km from Rameswaram to Manamadurai.”
