The latest news is that GCC has completed administering Covid-19 vaccination for more than 10lakhs persons belonging to Chennai. The target of more than 10lakhs must have been completed on 31st March itself but has been delayed by 15 days now.
In the Chennai city, there are 22lakhs people who are above the age of 45 and out of 10 lakhs who were vaccinated around 9lakhs were from the 45 age plus category.
As per the Chennai Corporation commissioner Mr. G. Prakash, the process of vaccination would be completed in a few days if all those above the age of 45 come forward to get vaccination. Apart from 150 private hospitals, 250 corporation and government hospitals also provide vaccination for the people. Information gathered is that 1,5lakhs out of 10lakhs have taken even the second dose.
Mr. Prakash later explained how the vaccinations would increase when the person who took the first dose took the second dose. New stocks of vaccines would be coming to Chennai every week and there are enough stocks for one more week. Point is that more than 10lakh shots are available with the civic body. The Chennai corporation commissioner then mentioned that the vaccination drive was highly successful in Chennai.
It is worthy to note that out of more than 20000 active cases just 230 are frontline workers, conservancy workers and police personnel accounting for 1percent. The data from the civic body revealed that as of Wednesday morning 10.09 lakh shots have been administered in the Chennai city.
