On 14th April, the residents of Chennai had double delight!!
It was Tamil New year day plus there were rains also in Chennai. The rains brought huge relief for many. Recently Chennai has been under scorching heat is well known to us. Throughout the day, smatterings of rainfall were witnessed in localities like Taramani, Anna Nagar etc. The weather experts were of the view that the weather conditions would continue for another 24 hours. Numgambakkam received 0.1mm rainfall and Meenambakkam received 1.4mm rains.
As per the weather blogger Mr. K. Srikanth, IMD AWS listed as Goodwill school in Villivakkam recorded 66.5mm rainfall.
It was brought out by Mr. S. Balachandran, director, RMC, Chennai that for the next 24 hours the sky would be normally cloudy and there would be light to moderate rains with thunder in some parts of Chennai. Maximum temperature recorded was 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature recorded was 26 degrees Celsius. He concluded that light to moderate rains would be present in the coastal districts and moderate thunder showers are expected in most parts of interior districts in Tamil Nadu.
There would be light to moderate rains in the districts near Western Ghats and north interior districts of TN till this weekend. It was later pointed out by the famous weather blogger Mr. Pradeep john that on Thursday there would be a widespread convergence that is expected over the KTC region. This would be responsible for more rains in the Chennai city plus in the surrounding districts over the day.
