What is happening in the MRTS stations in Chennai that is creating fear inside commuters? 250 words
In Chennai, MRTS or Mass Rapid Transit System has been used by many to reach their places of destination. The MRTS is now making news for the wrong reasons. It is known that MRTS connects the core places of Chennai with the IT corridor. The MRTS stations are now poorly maintained with deserted corridors. For making this elevated transport mode into an acceptable form, more work needs to be done soon.
Safety of the commuters is very important and for that CCTV cameras must be installed at the MRTS stations. In Chennai, MRTS has been in the news in recent times for a brutal attack on an RPF constable in Perungudi. There was also an instance of robbery reported in Taramani MRTS station.
Bitter truth is that vehicle thefts, chain snatching etc are getting reported often in these MRTS stations. The sad news is that no action or effort has been taken to provide a solution to the security based issues.
Recently, the news of a skeleton of an unidentified man retrieved from Greenways Road shocked many. This is proof that MRTS has not taken any action still for providing security. It is important to mention that the body was left to decay at the station for many months.
As the entire GRP and RPF were removed from the MRTS stations and shifted to the Central station to coordinate special trains for the guest workers, the already deserted MRTS stations were totally left without any surveillance. Truth is that after around 10 pm these MRTS stations are being used by many miscreants.
