The Secretary of the Department of Health of the State Government of Tamil Nadu, Dr J Radhakrishnan appealed to the citizens:” having saymptoms for corona infection? Do not panic! Do not go to hospital! Come to the nearest Screening Centre set up in your locality! Get the tests done! If required, the centre will arrange to send to the hospital!”
“As regards the Chennai Metro City, we have arranged 200 autos for the 200 wards! We take to citizens to the nearest Screening Centre. The citizens confirmed to be infected after tests are being taken wit the available 100 autos to the screening centres throughout the Chennai Metro City! Thorough X-Ray and blood-tests are done here and the patients are categorised, If the infection is only mild, there is no need for such patients to stay with the patients who are strongly affected!
At the same time, if the pulse oxymeter shows the oxygen level below 90, the concerned patients will be sent to hospitals by vehicles without any further tests!
The public has to understand thescreening facility in full and avail the same!
My 2nd appeal: the extent of the speed/impact of the resurgent coronavirus pandemic has come down in the last 2 days and thus, the increasing trend stands arrested@ THIS IS GOOD NEWS INDEED! However, please do not get carried away by this positive news and tend to become careless! Adhere to the guidelines in the most stringent manner! Only this will bring down the gravity of the current situation!
Similarly, the public needs to extend whole-hearted and full cooperation while strictly adhering to the guidelines especially in the Containment Zones!
We have released info regarding the availability of beds! We are trying to organise another 12000 oxygen beds! As a 1st Phase, 2000 beds will be ready by the end of this week! Apart from the Chennai Metro City Government Hospitals, we are arranging the same in Coimbatore, Salem, Trichy, and Madurai!
There is a total of 12031 beds available in the Chennai Metro City hospitals! Out of these, Covid hospitals are 5, Covid health Centres are 11, and Covid Care Centres are 14.
7500 beds have got filled so far. 3570 beds are unoccupied. Still, as patients rush to Omandhurar and Rajiv Gandhi Government general Hospitals, especially in the nights, an artificial situation of shortage is being created!
To avoid this trend, visit the screening centres only during day-time! Do not panic! The staff in the screening centre will take proper care – in case the infection is more intense, they will arrange to send to hospital immediately! Better isolate yourselves in the residence instead of attempting to get admitted to hospital with increased chances of infection over there!”
