The country’s first 3D printed house built by Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT, Chennai) Startup ‘Tvasta’ was inaugurated in the IIT Chennai campus yesterday (27th April) Tuesday!

This 3D printed house, covering an area of 600 sq ft, has a bedroom, a hall, and a kitchen. This has been designed using software and printed using concrete D printing technology!

The Director of the Indian Institute Of Technology, Madras, Bhaskar Ramamurthy shared: “The machine for constructing this house can be rented, like the bore wells rented by farmers! It provides for large-scale, high-quality and also, price assurance for the customers!”

Using this new technology, a new house can be built in 5 days – against the 4 or 5 months in the conventional construction mode! Further, the cost of the house is reduced by around 30% and the life of the building can exceed 50 years!

The technology digitizes that construction by using automated manufacture methods to build real-life structures. In this method, the green strength of concrete is achieved IN A FEW MINUTES AGAINST THE 21 DAYS OR MORE IN THE TRADITIONAL METHOD!

The technique uses a concrete 3D-printer which accepts a computerised 3-dimensional design file from the user and fabricates a 3D structure by extruding a specialized type of concrete specifically designed for the purpose.

While inaugurating the house ‘Virtually’ on Tuesday (27th April), the Central Finance Minister Nirmala Seetharaman said: “India definitely needs such solutions which do not require much time!”
