In the Chennai city during this total lockdown, the vegetable vendors have been given permission to sell vegetables and fruits to the residents on vehicles are well known. Now, GCC has released the contact details of more than 6000 vegetable vendors (who would be allowed to sell vegetables and fruits in the lockdown) on its website.
In the Covid-19 tab on www.chennaicorporation.gov.in website, details like contact numbers, places of operation, vehicle details and names etc could be seen by the residents. This was mentioned in the Chennai corporation press release. On the official website, details of as many as 6817 vendors have been uploaded. Mr. Gagandeep Singh, Chennai corporation commissioner said that the residents could contact the vendors for buying vegetables. As many as2102 vehicles left the Koyambedu market with veggies and fruits on Tuesday. It must be taken into account that the essential items were sold on the streets through 5345 tricycles and pushcarts.
Mobile vegetable shops in Chennai in the last 2 days have sold 3790 tonnes of vegetables and 1220 tonnes of fruits to the residents. In addition, 31 tonnes of flowers were also sold.
