All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has approved teaching for engineering colleges in 7 regional languages including Tamil.

Presently, English is the teaching medium in all Engineering colleges! So, the students who studied in the local language medium (for example, Tamil) in their schools need to switch over to learning in English while joining Engineering Colleges!

Due to this reason, most of the rural students do not show a keen interest in pursuing engineering courses!

In the given scenario as above, now AICTE has come up with the approval to teach in 7 regional languages including Tamil in the Engineering Colleges from the next Academic Year!

As such, the subjects which were being taught in English so far in Engineering Colleges will need to be taught in the approved local languages!

All India Council for Technical Education has decided to translate these textbooks for the above subjects in the regional languages. Further, AICTE has also decided to include 11 more languages in this scheme!

After this, AICTE has come up with the observation that henceforth, there would be more prospects for a larger number of students to pursue engineering courses.
