We still can’t believe legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam has left fans to the heavenly abode. The pandemic didn’t spare even him. Among the millions of fans missing the great singer, popular Carnatic singer Sikkil Gurucharan has sung a song for him.
Written by Dr.Sridharan, who goes by the pen name Karpagadasan, the song is inspired by a classic. The song is based on “Thulli Thirindha Pen Ondru” from the movie “Kaathirundha Kangal” which was originally sung by another legendary singer PB Srinivas in 1964.
Gurucharan offers his soulful voice to his melodious number which was put to tune by Arun Menon who took care of the music. The new version was launched last week on June 4th2021 which marked the 75th Birth anniversary of SPB.
Talking about missing the legendary singer, Gurucharan says it was Dr.Sridharan, an asthma specialist, who sent the lyrics of the new song a few weeks back and expressed his wish to record it in the same tune as the old classic. Gurucharan adds it is their way of a small tribute to the singer. He signs off saying, “SPB will always rule our hearts”.
The song was released in a special event organized by the Tokyo Tamil Sangam and World Tamil Sangams. We all will miss SPB. You can watch and listen to the tribute here.
