According to a recent survey conducted by Reuters, the third Covid-19 infection wave is likely to hit India in the month of October. It must be taken into account that 40 healthcare specialists, doctors, scientists, virologists, epidemiologists and professors across the world took part in this survey.
The factors such as hospital availability along with others like oxygen supply, vaccines and other medical equipment has now made 70% of respondents to feel that the next possible Coronavirus wave infection would be controlled well when compared to the first and second wave.
The vaccination against this deadly Covid-19 infection has been going on in India now and it is now said that in the third wave infections would be less. This was mentioned by Dr. Randeep Guleria, director of AIIMS. Truth is that he was also a part of the survey conducted by Reuters.
He spoke about how the third Covid-19 infection wave would be well controlled with less number of cases as more vaccinations would be rolled out. From the second wave, there would be some degree of natural immunity also.
It is learnt that 85% of the total respondents were of the view that the third wave would hit India by October. As many as 3 participants mentioned that the third wave would hit India by August. Twelve participants said that the third wave would hit India by September.
It is worthy to note that 26 out of 40 respondents were of the opinion that the upcoming third wave would affect those below the age of 18 more. The children are yet to get vaccinated and therefore they would be affected more due to the third Coronavirus infection wave. This was pointed out by Dr. Pradeep Banandur, head of epidemiology department at NIMHANS. He added that the children are a totally virgin population in terms of vaccination as at present no vaccine is available for them against Covid-19 infection. If the health system to treat the children is inadequate then the situation might turn worse also.
It was later mentioned by Dr Devi Shetty that if the children get affected by Covid-19 in big numbers and not prepared means then it would become a difficult situation. She highlighted that it would become a totally different issue as India has got very few paediatric intensive care unit beds. The children were not at risk due to the third wave was mentioned by 14 out of the 40 experts.
