From today, 21st June till 26th June, GCC will begin the second mass cleaning drive in Chennai city. This has been confirmed by the GCC in the press release.
It is now revealed that in this mass cleaning drive 4500 tonnes of construction waste and 1000 tonnes of garbage would be removed. It was also mentioned that as many as 614 spots have been identified for this mass cleaning drive. Information is that the senior engineers belonging to GCC have been appointed as the monitoring officers and they would be sending their daily reports to the Chennai Corporation commissioner Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi.
It must be remembered that in the first mass cleaning drive conducted in Chennai in the month of May the GCC removed 3250 tonnes of garbage and 10085 tonnes of construction waste from the roads and from the public places in the city.
As a part of preparation for the monsoons, CMWSSB or Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board or Metro Water has announced about the mass de-silting of underground sewage lines in Chennai city. Between 26th June and 30th June 2021, desilting works would be carried out in 801 streets. Sewage leakages must be informed by the residents to the metro water department.
