The growth in information technology has been tremendous in recent years. This has led to many social networking sites etc. Media, journalism etc are considered to be the fourth pillar of democracy.  Many share useful information in these is a well known fact.

There are some persons who for the sake of self publicity share disgusting information on social media networking sites plus through the media. These persons are creating issues and have been responsible for the law and order problem. It has been brought to light that some persons in the name of freedom of expression have been responsible for law and order issues by spreading defamatory comments. The statement also mentioned that few persons for the sake of their own benefits and to get cheap publicity and fame have been spreading defamatory comments amongst people against the government and against the political leaders etc. It is learnt that these could lead to disruption in the public peace and increase criminal activities.

Severe action would be taken by the TN police department regarding those people who express their views in the social networking sites and when the views create issues to the law and order, when their views create caste/ religion based riots etc. Severe action would also be taken against those who disrespect women gender and those who are responsible for the criminal activities etc. It must be noted that the strict action taken against such unacceptable activities have been there for a long time.

Point is that from the month of May till now as many as75 cases have been booked against those who have spread defamatory comments. Out of those, as many as 16 persons who have crossed their limits have been arrested.

It is now said that out of all the complaints registered regarding defamatory comments only those defamatory comments in the media and social networking sites that have created issues in public peace, law and order etc have been dealt strictly without any bias.
