Known for his vast car collection, Vijay seems to have landed himself in trouble for evading tax in importing a car.

The actor, a proud owner of a Rolls Royce Ghost, got it imported from England but had filed a petition to now allow tax authorities from collecting entry tax for his luxury car. The Madras High Court however had dismissed the writ petition moved by the actor and ordered him to pay Rs.1 Lakh as fine. The import tax is 20% of the cost of the car.

This amount, which the court has asked the actor to pay within two weeks, will be deposited to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund.  Pointing to this reckless behavior of an actor who has a sizeable following, the judge who oversaw the judgment Justice Subramaniam, said fans see actors as real heroes and when such actors evade tax, it shall be construed as an anti-national attitude and unconstitutional.

Contrary to their real-life habits, actors were portraying themselves as champions to bring social justice in movies, the judge added.

Boasting of a long list of cars in his garage, Vijay is often spotted in Audi sedans, BMW SUVs, and the car in controversy Rolls Royce.
