Schools have been closed now in Tamil Nadu due to Covid-19 infection. Now, loss of school days has been taken into consideration by the school education department.
It is learnt that the school education department has decided to identify the important portions in the syllabus of class 1 to 12.
It was later mentioned by some officials that examinations would be based on those identified portions only but students preparing for competitive exams must prepare as per the respective syllabus only.
Normal classroom transactions have been affected due to non-reopening of the schools in the month of June 2021 because of Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, it was not possible to cover all the portions designed for the entire academic year. It is now revealed that after calculating the transaction period availability in this 2021-22 academic year 50 to 54% syllabus of classes 1 to 8 and 60 to 65% syllabuses of classes 9 to 12 would be given priority.
Without compromising the coverage of all the learning outcomes, SCERT or State Council of Educational Research and Training (responsible for school curriculum) has undertaken prioritisation of syllabuses. This was mentioned by a senior school education department official.
He threw light on how the CEOs would communicate the various topics regarding prioritised syllabus to the schools in TN. Truth is that the schools have been ordered to conduct exams based only on the prioritised portions. He concluded that the students who prepare for the competitive exams must prepare as per the syllabus for the concerned test.
Information collected is that SCERT has developed a refresher course module that would cover the basics as well as other important concepts depending on critical learning outcomes of the previous classes. This was mainly done to help the students who have been promoted to the higher classes without any school based assessment or board exams etc in the last year. It must be taken into account that the refresher course module for class 9 would have basic concepts up to class 7 plus all the important concepts from class 8. In 45 to 50 days of time, refresher courses could be covered.
