Bike - Taxi facility to be permitted soon in Tamil Nadu!

The facility of ‘Bike Taxi’ as a means of public transport has not been permitted in the State of Tamil Nadu so far.
However, it is reliably gathered from the transport circles that permission is likely to be granted soon for the introduction of ‘bike taxi’ facility for the public as a means of transport in the State of Tamil Nadu.
An official from the Transport Department shared in this regard:
“As per the present Motor Vehicles Act, 2 wheelers are NOT considered as public rental transport. Due to this, it was NOT POSSIBLE to issue Yellow Number Boards to 2-wheelers as rental transport.”
As the central government has now permitted bike taxis, the public may likely be able to avail the facility of rental bike taxis as a transport facility.
A rule will be imposed at that time that it will be MANDATORY for the driver as well as the pillion rider (the Passenger) to wear helmets.
The official further informed that a retailed review meeting is likely to be conducted among the officials of the Transport Department in this regard.
It has also been informed on behalf of the Department of Transport that ‘bike-taxi’ transport facility is permitted and available in certain tourist spots such as Goa.
