It has been 140 days or nearly 5 months since the active Coronavirus cases went down below 20,000 in Tamil Nadu. On Thursday, 19th August the total number of active cases reported was 19,864 in TN. This has caught the attention of many. There were as many as 29 deaths due to Covid-19 infection yesterday and the cumulative death toll stands at 34639. Ever since 2nd of April the active cases increased and it went above3.13lakhs on 25th of May 2021. On 2nd April, there were as many as3290 new cases.
Truth is that the decrease in the number of fresh cases has led to a drop in the active cases and by 8th June active cases dropped to 2.18lakhs in Tamil Nadu. The number of active cases went below one lakh on 18th June with as many as 80009 persons under treatment. Overall the number of Coronavirus cases has reduced but 10 districts showed a marginal increase between 1 and 4 cases and 22 districts showed a marginal drop of up to 7 cases.
On Wednesday, the district of Coimbatore saw as many as 210 cases and this reduced to 198 cases yesterday. Compared to 198 cases on Wednesday, Chennai city reported 193 cases on Thursday. In the district of Tiruvannamalai, the number of cases went up from 33 on Wednesday to 37 yesterday. There were less than 25 cases in 16 districts and less than 5 cases in 5 districts in Tamil Nadu. Ramanathapuram district had just 3 cases yesterday and Virudhunagar district had 4 cases.
