Chennaiites unhappy with water supply

A survey conducted by a leading newspaper shows us that residents of Chennai are extremely unhappy with the water situation in the city. Even areas such as Anna Nagar and Teynampet, that supposedly have the best water supply, were not up to the mark.

According to the survey, although residents in Anna Nagar, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar and Teynampet were the most happy with the supply, they only gave a score of 2.5 out of 5. The worst areas were Tiruvottiyur, Alandur, Ambattur and Perungudi.

‘Areas that are farther away from a pumping station get less water. Why do some areas have to store water for two weeks before a tanker arrives while some certain areas have not the slightest hint of a water crisis? In West Mambalam where (I live), piped supply stopped two months ago and (we) bank on water tankers. The Metrowater tankers fill our sumps every day, but it isn`t sufficient. So we have to call private tankers. We have to place orders 15 days in advance’, says President of Exnora, Chennai District Govindaraj.
