In about 6 months of time , the CMWSSB or metro water board plans to reduce cash collection at its offices. It is now said that point of sale machines or POS would be launched for this sake.

Information is that CMWSSB offices including the depots that are engaged in the collection of taxes would be provided with as many as 180 POS machines. Training has been given to the personnel about operating POS machines. It must be taken into note that the online services of CMWSSB have gained patronage. It was mentioned by a senior officer belonging to the metro water that in 2021 nearly 60% of the consumers paid tax and charges through internet banking. For the purpose of online payment, a number of facilities have been added such as mobile wallets etc.

Payment of taxes and charges could be done without any problem now with the customers receiving the link as text message. Since April this year, CMWSSB has collected Rs 359 crores and taxes and charges from the customers. In the month of September alone, Rs 151.55 crores has been collected. It must be noted that earlier the collection touched nearly Rs 110 crores in March 2019. The severity of the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020 has made the revenue from the tax and charges collections relatively poor last year. The CMWSSB is targeting to collect Rs 700 crores minimum by the end of next half yearly. In 2018-19, an amount of Rs 630 crores was collected as revenue from taxes and charges.
