Just around 15 days to go for the festival of deepavali now!!

Many now are finding it tough to buy the basic necessities also. In this scenario, the sales of crackers would be a low key affair in Chennai.

Normally, the sale of crackers would have started earlier but this time around the sales have begun now only. This was according to some wholesalers in Parry’s Corner. A wholesale cracker shop owner at Anderson Street expressed his thoughts. He spoke about how 5 years back the cracker business did superbly and for 40 days there used to be business. He mentioned that now people do not have money to buy essential items plus the prices of crackers have gone up.

Truth is that the retail sales of crackers haven’t yet picked up and shops are being put up in many places in Chennai. In Chennai in the localities like Saligramam, Triplicane, Besant Nagar, Saidapet, Royapettah etc, TUCS would be setting up fire crackers outlets for the public. As per an official source it was confirmed that in this year all cracker sales would be computerised. Based on the price list provided at the shops, the customers would get their bills.

Point is that all the crackers would be green and the sales would start from Friday. Over the weekend only, the cracker shops would start their sales at the Island Grounds in Chennai. It must be noted that the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation or TNTDC every year leases out 3.20 lakhs sq ft of space for setting up of cracker shops. In 2020, even when the Covid-19 infection was at its peak, the cracker sales did not take a break at the Island Grounds. It is now brought out that around 50 cracker shops would be getting around 1000 visitors per day till 5th of November.
