By end of this year, the metro rail will commence its services between Koyambedu – St Thomas Mount. About 9.5km of track have been laid for metro rail`s elevated line on the Koyambedu- St Thomas Mount stretch. Station work is also progressing rapidly at Koyambedu, Vadapalani, Ashok Nagar, Alandur and St Thomas Mount. All the stations will have escalators, ramp for physically challenged, separate path for visually disabled people, parking lots, emergency exits, CCTV surveillance, scanners and metal detectors at the entry points.
The metro rail will travel on elevated tracks as well as underground tracks. On the whole there will be 32 metro rail stations. Out of which 19 will be underground stations and balance 13 stations will be on the elevated tracks.All the works connected between Koyambedu – St Thomas Mount like track laying, welding of tracks are over. Painting work is going on now and will be completed soon.
Arrangements are being made for the passengers to transit comfortably. Special foot over bridges to the bus stations are also being provided for the convenience of passengers.For the convenience of passengers, ticket vending machines are also being provided.
All the passengers will be subjected to security checks by means of scanners. Metal detectors are also installed at every entry points. Surveillance cameras are also installed at all the vantage points of the metro stations.In case of emergency like fire, special safety exits have also been provided. Many officials will be deployed in each of the metro railway stations.
