On Monday, schools and colleges reopened after a gap of 2 weeks and 80% attendance was reported. It must be taken into note that schools and colleges present in flooded parts could not conduct physical classes due to water stagnation. Those institutions that were conceived as relief centres did not function on Monday.
The health department has given clear instruction regarding Covid 19 protocols that must be followed in schools and in colleges in Tamil Nadu. While conducting classes for the students who were present, all standard operating procedures or SOP were followed. The students wore face masks and maintained physical distancing inside the classes. Point is that schools did not resume in the district of Kanniyakumari but in other districts all schools resumed for the sake of students. It is learnt that 80% of attendance was present in the educational institutions. This was according to a senior officer belonging to the school education department.
For those students studying in the schools, arrangements have been undertaken to provide noon meals for the kids. It is worthy to note that kids studying in TN government schools would be provided textbooks and notebooks that they lost in the floods. Immunisation of various water borne diseases would be carried out for the school going children because NE monsoons intensified in the state of Tamil Nadu. Ninety percent attendance was there at polytechnic institutions in Tamil Nadu.
Information collected is that the induction programme that was suspended for the first year under UG arts, science and engineering students would resume again. This was mentioned by a senior officer belonging to the higher education department. He then threw light on various cancelled programmes such as B. Arch admissions, hostel admissions etc have resumed once again for the students. It is learnt that distribution of free bus passes plus various other student related activities have also started.
