Important announcement regarding the annual exams / board exams for students belonging to 9 to 12 in TN

Normally, the annual or board examinations for the students studying in the classes 9 to 12 would be held in March and April months.

Now, the time is very short due to extended holidays due to heavy rains etc and the entire syllabus might not be completed before the examinations in the stipulated time. It is now revealed that the TN government would be planning to postpone the annual exams to May month in 2022.

With truncated syllabus, the school education department was thinking about conducting the board or annual exams in the months of March and April in 2022 even for the students of class 9. As per a senior official belonging to the school education department it was clear that for the students of classes 9 to 12 the schools resumed from September after Covid- 19 was brought under control.

Due to festival holidays and very heavy rains, regular classes could not be held for these students in the last 2 weeks. The heavy rains and floods were responsible for the non- reopening of schools this week also. The online classes were stopped in many private schools in TN and hence it would not be possible to cover the entire syllabus in stipulated time. The senior official then spoke about how a meeting would be organised to take stock of the situation.

Truth is that the authorities do not want the syllabus to be reduced any further for the students and extending the board examination schedule was the only possible solution. It was later brought out by another official belonging to the school education department that the TN government would not want to overburden the students. There would be parent-teacher meetings regularly once schools resume classes and private schools have been instructed not to hold any half-yearly exams/ revision tests etc without consulting the authorities belonging to the education department.
