The RMC or Regional Meteorological Centre has confirmed that the depression southwest Bay of Bengal of north TN coast moved west north westwards. It had crossed north TN and adjoining south AP coasts between Puducherry and Chennai on Friday.
Information gathered is that atleast 5 places in Tamil Nadu received extremely heavy rains in the past 24 hours, 37 areas received very heavy rains and 6 areas had heavy rains.
Mr. N. Puviarsan, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre mentioned that the depression has weakened into a well marked low pressure area over north interior Tamil Nadu and adjoining Karnataka and Rayalseema yesterday. He added that it would move west north westwards and weaken further in the next 24 hours.
There would be heavy rains with thunderstorms in districts like Ariyalur, Erode, Perambalur, The Nilgris, Krishnagiri, Tirupathur, Salem, Kallakurichi etc in the next 2 days. It is now said that the Chennai city would have light to moderate rains with thunderstorms in few places in the next 2days. Chenai would have a maximum temperature of around 30 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of around 25 degrees Celsius. There were 22cm rains in Tindivanam, Koliyanur etc belonging to Villupuram district and 21cm rains in Manampoondi in Villupuram yesterday.
