The total number of tanks present in the districts belonging to Kancheepuram and Chengalpet is 909. Out of those, 874 tanks have reached their maximum capacities now due to very heavy rains.

It must be noted that most of the large tanks in Maduranthakam, Uthiramerur and Sriperumbudur have been filled with water now. It is learnt that the residents belonging to Edamichi near Uthiramerur offered flowers and fruits at the tank in the village that has been filled up for the second successive year now. It was later pointed out by a resident that the residents still follow their forefathers tradition of paying respect to the rain gods. The lake is spread over 400 acres and it provides drinking water to 3 villages. It is learnt that the surplus water released from this lake joins Palar through the lakes present in Salavakkam and S. Mambakkam etc.

Out of a total of 818 water tanks in the Tiruvallur district, as many as248 tanks are filled up with water now. This includes the tanks maintained by the water resources department or WRD also.

A heavy inflow of 12000 cusecs was received by the Poondi reservoir and by the evening of Sunday the discharge into Kosasthalaiyar was steadily increased to 12000 cusecs.
