Monday saw intermittent rains in certain areas in Chennai. The morning was bright and sunny but the skies clouded up suddenly in the late afternoon and brought showers in the evening. Heavy rain was reported in certain parts of the city.

Both the Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam weather stations reported a temperature of 36.1 degrees Celsius. Avadi, Nungambakkam and Tiruvallur received 2 mm of rainfall till5.30 pm.  ‘A weak low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal had caused the rainfall over northern coastal districts, including Chennai. Once the system moves inland, rainfall will decrease. The Doppler radar images showed patchy clouds over the city and the rainfall may not be widespread…  The rainfall would continue for one or two more days during evening or night’, said officials at the Regional Meteorological Centre.
