An order has been sent regarding procuring ghee and butter from Aavin for lighting lamps and for making Neivedhiya and prasadam at the temples comes under the Hindu religious and Charitable Endowments or HR&CE department.

An order was issued to the temple JC’s and executive officers by Mr. J. Kumaragurubharan, commissioner and it stated that the main aim was to ensure quality of food items prepared in the temples and prevent damage to the environment by lighting lamps using poor quality ghee. From 1st of January 2022, this new order would come into effect in the temples

Recently, MD of Aavin, Mr. N. Subbaiyan wrote a letter to HR & CE Commissioner requesting the temples use ghee and butter from the TN Cooperative Milk Producers Federation which has the popular brand Aavin.

As many as 25 unions have also written letters to the respective temples asking them to place orders for ghee and butter from Aavin. This was according to Aavin official sources.

It was later mentioned by an official that the ghee would be available in various packings from 15ml pouches to 15 kg tins and it could be used in the temples. He assured that there would be timely supply to the temples. With this, Aavin would be selling 150- 250 tons of ghee and butter every month to as many as 1200 temples across Tamil Nadu. For taking steps to help Aavin, Mr. M.G. Rajendran of Tamil Nadu Milk Producers Association thanked the CM of Tamil Nadu Mr. M.K. Stalin.
