If you have thought that there no Covid-19 clusters in Chennai now, then this piece of information would surely surprise you!!
The 19th street belonging to Ashok Nagar in south Chennai is making sensational news now as GCC has identified a cluster of 10 Covid-19 cases there. Yesterday, the health minister Mr. M. Subramaniam, GCC commissioner Mr. Gagadeep Singh and Health secretary Mr. J. Radhakrishnan made their presence felt in this street in Ashok Nagar. On 20th December, the first case was identified in this locality and since then the number of cases have increased.
It was brought to light by an officer belonging to GCC that due to the restriction in the entry and exit of this street initiating tight containment measures would be difficult. He threw light on how the residents here cannot be forced to make them stay inside their homes like in the past. He stressed the importance of FOCUS volunteers who did superbly helping those in the home quarantine.
It must be taken into account that 2 commercial establishments on this street in Ashok Nagar have been closed down temporarily. It is known that the schools and colleges have reopened for the students and other residents of the street might not be able to avoid going out. Contact tracing now has been extended to the schools and colleges also.
It is learnt that the details of schools where children from Covid-19 affected families go are being collected now by the officials to intimate the school. Till now, 84 samples have been tested related to this cluster.
