Music composer Ilayaraja  has mentioned that if music is made a compulsory lesson than the violence in  the minds of the youth will vanish. Yesterday music composer Ilayaraja had inaugurated a music research centre in Thyagaraja College in Madurai. Speaking on this occasion, he said, “ There is big traditional culture in Tamil music. The music which came into being after  more than centuries have come to this stage after overcoming so many hurdles.

In order to preserve our Tamil traditional music, the government should come forward to make the music a part of its curriculum. When I happened to go through the recently released Tamil musical dictionary, I came across thousands of musical words. I don’t know the meaning of many words but it made me understand that how big is the history of Tamil music is. Violence is increasing in our country. Only music has the power of controlling it. If one thinks of music, the violence in the minds will vanish into thin air. So, music should be thought in the student stage itself.”
