For the safety of the public, GCC has mentioned certain rules that must be followed compulsorily today on the occasion of bhogi festival. It is clear that those persons who burn old tyres etc today would be fined an amount of Rs 1000. The Pongal celebrations have begun in TN amidst the Coronavirus restrictions. It is known that the last day of the month of ‘Margazhi’ is being celebrated as Bogi festival day. On this day, people would burn old things present in their houses. Districts near the Andhra Pradesh border usually celebrate bhogi very well.
The GCC has announced that in Chennai city plastic items and tyres should not be burnt for celebrating this bhogi festival. All the 15 zones belonging to GCC have been asked to follow this without fail. It must not be forgotten that even in the past this rule was announced by the GCC.
