It is obvious that the school children would lose interest in learning and would lose touch with the books and become lethargic etc when they are provided holidays. In the homes, the school kids just want to relax and have fun only is well known.

Now, the education officials belonging to the Chennai Corporation and staff of schools have a huge challenge that is to keep the interest of learning alive among students and school dropouts.

It was brought out by some senior corporation officials that they have got a plan in place within a week of time. Point is that the school staff were of the view that just few options were available for the corporation school students to continue learning from homes because of lack of access to internet facilities. With more than one lakh admissions this year, the corporation schools made many heads turn is a well known fact.

According to Gulam S.K, state headquarters secretary of TN PG Teachers Association it was clear that very few students belonging to corporation schools have access to internet facilities for learning. Processing of a new plan is going on now for engaging the students usefully.

Learning subjects like Mathematics and English would be tough for the students without internet facilities. This was mentioned by some principals. According to Mr. Justin, district secretary of TN Elementary School Teachers Federation, students must take interest and learn by themselves and that was the only way. He then highlighted the importance of group education and said the kids would learn well when present in the group environment. With the presence of Coronavirus and Omicron variants etc the ‘Illam Thedi Kalvi’ scheme might not be possible also.

Mr Justin then spoke about how the ‘Illam Thedi Kalvi’ scheme is conducted by the volunteers inside the corporation school premises that are in grounds, verandas etc. Truth is that not all the students attend these classes regularly, especially if the student resides far away.

In the last 2 years, the number of school drop outs has reduced and the dropouts were mostly kids of migrant laborers etc. This was as per some corporation officials. It must be taken into account that the teachers have been asked to keep in touch with the school students to avoid dropouts.

It was later mentioned by an official that teaching the students was challenging in these critical situations and the class teachers have been asked to keep in touch with their students.
