Fields such as cloud computing, data science, AI, machine learning and programming languages etc have got lots of scope and these fields would provide many job opportunities for the youngsters.

The news is that many IT and IT product companies have begun to offer students at select engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu internships from the second year itself. The major objective behind this would be to train the students in the above said fields. By working on real life issues at these IT and IT product companies, the students would gain superb experience. This would help them job ready when they complete their 4 year engineering degree. These students would be offered higher salaries than others and their careers would be fast tracked.

Many famous IT companies like HCL and Virtusa etc have been training the faculty members as well the students in certain fields like embedded systems, full stack development, cloud computing and programming etc. In 2021, these training programmes were provided in just one or two colleges but now these programmes have been extended to more than 10 engineering colleges in TN.

Mr. Ravi Venkatramani, CEO of Kriyadocs, leading publishing automation platform spoke about how the students would be prepared according to the requirements of the company while they were studying the engineering course. He explained that previously his company had hired third year engineering students and now his company would be hiring students from the second year itself. The students would be working on fields like AI, machine learning, XML, backbend development etc.

According to Mr. S. Krithivasan, head, strategy and engagement, university hiring at Virtusa it was clear that companies do not have sufficient time to train the students these days. Hiring the final year students might not suit the requirements of the company. He concluded that the engineering colleges have got lots of time & energy to incorporate the needs of the company. It must be noted that Virtusa has extended the programme to 5 more engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu in the last one year.

It was later mentioned by a third year B. Tech (Information Technology) student belonging to RMK Engineering College that industry experts have been teaching the latest trending applications. Truth is that these applications or programming languages were not part of the syllabus. He added that the experts from Virtusa have taught him and his batch mates about Java full stack, React JS etc.
