Underage kids driving vehicles have become common now in Chennai and its suburbs!!
Chennai residents would not have forgotten the incident that took place last month when two boys took their fathers motorcycle without informing him and they rammed against a stationary truck on the Tiruvallur high road on the outskirts of Chennai city.
Mr. Sathyanarayana, the dad whose sons died in the above mentioned accident spoke about how due to the closure of schools due to lockdown he was teaching his kids to drive his motorcycle. He mentioned that it was a lesson for every parent who wants to teach their underage kids about driving. Recently, an underage boy was seen riding a motorcycle with his dad on the back seat in Velachery. This incident also took many by surprise.
Now, many underage boys and girls in Chennai are driving their parent’s vehicles on the streets and roads as their schools have been closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. These kids indulge in bike racing and rash driving creating issues for many others. Underage driving is an offence and sometimes parents themselves have been coaching their kids.
According to traffic police personnel, many minors drove motorbikes from Royapuram to Muthuswamy Bridge during the night time. He threw light regarding the inability to note down the registration number of the vehicles of these underage kids due to the complete darkness.
It is highly shocking to mention here that even when there was no lockdown many school students in their school uniforms were seen driving vehicles.
