By the end of the month of February, the construction of the second flyover would be completed at Medavakkam in south Chennai. This second flyover would provide huge relief for the motorists travelling through Velachery-Tambaram route.

The work on the 2.3km long, 3- lane flyover at Medavakkam is almost finished now and just a few minor works only there. The sensational information is that this flyover would be thrown open for the public by this month`s end. This was according to the state highways department sources.

The sources also added that the work on SWD and service roads would be taken up only after the flyover at Medavakkam gets opened. It is brought out that those works would be over by another 2 months.  Places like Tambaram, Velachery and Sholinganallur are connected by Kootu Road at Medavakkam and it is one of the busiest junctions. Information is that every day on an average 1.30lakhs motorists use this stretch. In the year 2016, the state highways department had started the work on the twin flyovers at Medavakkam at an amount of Rs 133 crores. The delay in acquisition of lands has led to unnecessary stoppage of the work. In February 2021, one of the twin flyovers was opened for traffic.
