In the state of Tamil Nadu, many vaccination camps have been held till now for the purpose of vaccinating the public. Many have been administered with two doses now.

It is known that the health department of TN has advised the senior citizens or those above the age of 60 and those with co-morbid conditions to get booster doses also to safeguard them from the Covid-19 infection. Information is that there are about 35lakhs senior citizens who are eligible for the booster dose of vaccination. This has been based on the date when they were given the first vaccination dose. Frontline workers and healthcare workers are also eligible for the booster dose.

Dr. Vinay Kumar, immunisation officer, Directorate of Public health and Preventive Medicine expressed his thoughts. He pointed out that just about 5.32lakhs of booster doses have been administered in Tamil Nadu till now. It is known that the health minister Mr. M. Subramaniam has advised the eligible public to get the booster dose of vaccination as soon as possible because in the future there would be many more who would need the booster dose of vaccination. In the beginning, the vaccination drive was very slow in Tamil Nadu but it has picked up from March onwards.

By the next month, the number of eligible population to receive booster doses would be around 50lakhs. Now, just 15% of the eligible populations have been administered with the booster vaccination and this has been from the date of their first vaccination doses. Truth is that the delay in getting a second vaccination dose would affect the eligibility. It must be noted that the number of frontline as well as the healthcare workers getting vaccinated for Covid-19 generally and for the booster dose is satisfactory. Dr. Vinay Kumar concluded that those persons aged more than 65 and above with co-morbidities were less.
