Medical Council of India has issued notifications for for holding common entrance tests for MBBS, BDS and post-graduate medical courses. A three-judge bench of The Supreme Court Thursday quashed the Medical Council of India`s (MCI) notification for holding common entrance tests for MBBS, BDS and post-graduate medical courses. The court`s decision came on 115 petitions challenging the MCI notification on NEET for admission to MBBS and post-graduate medical courses conducted in colleges across the country.
It said that neither the MCI Act nor the regulations had vested MCI with any authority to conduct examinations for NEET, thereby effectively taking away the right of medical colleges and institutions, including those run by religious and linguistic minorities, to make admissions on the basis of their own rules and procedures.
