The Coronavirus infection that shot up abnormally in the month of January 2022 has been brought under control and normalcy has returned now in Chennai.

Yesterday, on Sunday the number of active Covid-19 cases was 1511 in Chennai. On 21st February, the number of active cases was 2690 in the city and this has clearly shown the decrease in the active cases.

It is superb to note that there are less than 100 cases in 7 out of 15 GCC zones now. North Chennai zones like Tiruvottriyur and Manali have got less than 50 cases. It is important to mention here that in Tamil Nadu there were just 439 Coronavirus positive cases and the total number of cases has crossed a milestone to record as many as 3449007 cases. In the past 24 hours, the number of samples tested in Tamil Nadu stood at 60304.

Overall TPR now stands at 0.8percemt in Tamil Nadu and in Chennai TPR stands at 1.2percent. The number of active cases came down below 1000 in all the districts belonging to the state of Tamil Nadu. Districts such as Ariyalur, Mayiladuthurai, Theni, Kallakurichi etc did not report any Covid-19 case yesterday.

The first vaccination dose has been provided to 5489294 persons that is 99.8percent of the eligible population. As many as 4278618 (that is 78percent of the population) persons have got administered with a second vaccination dose. There won’t be a sudden increase in the number of daily cases after the third Coronavirus infection wave. It is now said that those who haven’t yet administered the second dose must get it as soon as possible. This was mentioned by some health experts.

The state has been trying for 100% vaccination of those persons with co-morbid conditions like BP, Diabetes etc. Dr. H. Kolandaswamy, former director of public health hinted that the vulnerable persons would be those who have co-morbid conditions in them and without getting vaccinated. Booster dose is very essential for those above the age of 60 and those with co-morbid conditions in them. There is not much awareness regarding the booster dose and people must get the booster dose on time. It was later brought out by the famous virologist Dr. Jacob John that prediction for large spurt in the Covid-19 cases could be complex. He hinted that an isolated increase in the clusters would be there. He concluded that he was having doubts about the fourth wave and the endemic would be present.
